Chardonnay grapes back in fashion
17 Feb 2005

The Australian Bureau of Agriculture and Resource Economics forecast that growth in white wine grape production would outstrip red wine grape production. ABARE expects an increase by more than five per cent, to 1.93 million tonnes over the next two years, in wine grape production overall. ABARE said premium white production would increase by 10 per cent, to 724,000 tonnes. Production of chardonnay is projected to rise by 15 per cent, to 423,000 tonnes. Premium red production is projected to increase by three per cent to 974,000 tonnes.
