Hunter valley vineyards seek a new image
11 Apr 2005

Winemakers in the Hunter Valley fear the area faces losing its reputation as a serious wine region. Macquarie Bank's executive chair David Clarke, who is also chair of McGuigan Simeon Wines, said the marketing of the region's wine was "tired and outdated" and sales were suffering. Clarke’s own company, Poole's Rock Wines, is part of a group of about 30 winemakers that have got together in the past two months to develop a new marketing strategy. Vineyard owners in the Hunter say cellar door sales have been falling in recent years.
