Winemakers cop lower margins to clear stock 6 Jul 2005
Domestic consumption of wine is rising, but exports are falling, leave wine makers, and wine grape growers, to deal with a prolonged wine glut. Domestic wine sales increased in May by seven per cent, probably due to price discounting by winemakers and retailers to clear stock. Red wine sales increased by 12 per cent while white wine sales were up by six per cent. Exports, however, fell by seven per cent.
