Prices flat as wine lake grows
4 Mar 2009

Prices for Australian wine are expected to remain flat for at least five years according to ABARE, as the excess wine ''lake'' continues to grow despite the drought. Increased competition from domestic and international growers is expected to keep prices down. Consumption of Australian wine fell five per cent last year as total wine consumption fell one per cent and the lower Australian dollar made imported produce cheaper. ABARE said that consumers preferred new varieties from Spain, Portugal, Italy and France.
