Tough times ahead for wine growers
16 Mar 2009

Competition on international wine markets is expected to cut into wine industry profits as competition from New Zealand, the EU and the US intensifies. ABARE senior economist Dr Brenda Dyack said last week that imports are expected to continue to increase as drinkers look for new varieties and styles of wine. Total Australian wine-grape production was forecast to fall from 1.84 million tonnes in 07-08 to about 1.7 million tonnes in 08-09.
