Woolworths raises $3 million for farmers 24 Jan 2007
Woolworths and Safeway stores have donated yesterday’s profit to the Country Women’s Association (CWA), expected to be more than $3 million. The money raised will help families in drought-stricken families cover costs of up to $1,500, Safeway vouchers would also be given out and some money will go to research into sustainable agriculture. Noela Macleod, CWA’s Victorian president, said, “This money will be going to help a household keep going. You have to be able to eat, to drink, to phone someone up and to drive a car so you are not isolated.” Application forms for help will be available from the CWA from February 1. A toll-free line will be set up.
