La Nina on its way out
20 Feb 2008

The La Nina weather pattern that has brought drenching rains to the north and west of Australia could soon be over. According to the Bureau of Meteorology the La Nina cycle is probably reaching its peak and while there could still be some significant falls to come the tropical dips experienced through summer will start to wane. Director at the Bureau, Geoff Love, said that the southern parts of the country that have so far missed out on the rain could remain dry as the chances of frontal rain through autumn and winter had diminished due to climate change. "In the next month or two we've got to hope for some good rains in southern Australia before it slips away to autumn again," he said.
