Government kicks off water plan
14 May 2008

The government will invest $900 million in improving water infrastructure over the next two years. Farmers will be able to access $130 million to identify ways to maintain productivity while adapting to the challenges if climate change. At the same time plans to buy back water licenses have been accelerated with $170 million to be spent in the next financial year and another $482 million to be spent in 2009-10. Small communities will benefit from $254 million earmarked to help them save water or find new sources of supply.
