The most prestigious sheep-shearing competition in Australia is in danger of collapsing, as the organisers can't get adequate public liability insurance. The Diamond Shears competition in Longreach - which has been going for 22 years - could only be "saved by a miracle", said Joyce Rogers, the event's committee secretary.

The committee had to cancel the competition in 2002 due to the public liability insurance crisis, but had hoped to put in place adequate cover for this year's event, scheduled to take place in July.

The Daily Telegraph, 26/2/03, page 24.
