Wool growers to vote on levy rate 25 Jul 2003
Australia's levy-paying wool growers will vote in WoolPoll 2003 from late September to early November to determine the levy rate for the three financial years starting from July 1, 2004.
The poll was first held in 2000 and is to be taken every three years. The levy was set at two per cent in 2000, the rate at which it still stands. It funds wool industry research, development and innovation programs, and helps provide market analysis and other services to wool levy payers.
The levy, plus a government contribution, is invested by Australian Wool Innovation in strategically important R&D issues for wool growers. AWI is owned by Australia's 36,000 wool levy payers.
The Woolpoll 2003 voting kit will be sent to levy-payers in late September. It will offer a choice of five levy rates: zero per cent, one per cent, 1.5 per cent, two per cent and three per cent.
