Ultrafine record faces southern challenge
11 Mar 2004

Queensland's claim on producing the finest wool bale could already have been bettered. Last week, Rick and Bim Goodrich, of Inglewood in southern Queensland, announced a record bale of 11.9 microns. Their Primerino bale was drawn from a shedded flock of nearly 700 Saxon Merinos. But Bim Goodrich conceded that the bale had been drawn from more than one season's wool and it hadn't been tested for length and strength.

Ultrafine wool specialist Keith Jackson is cautiously optimistic that the latest clip from John and Helen Brown's shedded flock at Casterton could better the record. The Browns produced a bale of 12 micron last year and Mr Jackson is convinced they could go considerably finer this year. He said the Browns' clip is in store currently and undergoing final preparations.
