Wool prices struggle
6 Oct 2004

Higher oil prices are helping to make wool more competitive against synthetics, but not against cotton. A new report from Australian Wool Innovation shows that the relative price of wool used for clothing blends is back on the long-term average of three times the price of synthetics. That compares with 18 months ago, when wool was five times the price of synthetics. The AWI report said there were encouraging signals from the fashion industry, where wool has featured strongly in garments for the northern hemisphere's autumn and winter season.
