Woolmark seeks a cut of R&D levy 8 Dec 2004
Australian Wool Services, which manages the Woolmark label, wants a reversion to compulsory wool grower funding of promotion of wool. Trevor Flugge, chairman of AWS, said growers must once again contribute directly to promotion. Growers ceased to pay a compulsory promotion levy in 2002, when the AWS separated from Australian Wol Innovation, which manages research and development for the industry. Growers still pay a two per cent levy to AWI to fund R&D, and Flugge now wants a share of those revenues redirected to Woolmark.
