Storms savage potato production in WA’s south-west
5 Apr 2005

Severe storms in the south of Western Australia killed more than 100,000 sheep and caused about $8 million in crop and stock losses. Most of the dead sheep were shorn recently and died from hypothermia in the south-west, while half of WA's seed potatoes were ruined in the great southern region. The WA Farmers Federation said some farmers in the prime wool producing areas lost all last year's lambs. The WA Potato Growers Association said Albany's seed potato industry lost more than 70 per cent of the region's annual production.
