Wool production expected to ease
5 Jul 2005

Australian shorn wool production will dip in 2005/06 thanks to the dry autumn in the eastern states and South Australia. Australian Wool Innovation said it expected shorn wool production would be 470 million kilograms this year, one per cent lower than 2004-05. The 2005/06 forecast assumes 105.9 million sheep shorn at an average 4.44 kilograms per head. In all states except Western Australia, average fleece weights for the season are expected to be marginally lower than last year.
