US retailers negotiate compact over mulesing

Australian Wool Innovation and the US National Retail Federation said they drafted an agreement that commits to end mulesing by 2010. AWI said it would do its best to set an earlier deadline. If the NRF signs, it will agree to support retailers that are targeted by animal liberation groups and will provide them with relevant information it has received from industry. The compact will provide international retailers with an overview of Australia's animal health standards. The agreement also lists research projects that aim to replace mulesing.
