Wool and wheat prices in decline
13 Sep 2005

Wool and wheat prices are in decline. Wool prices have sunk to their lowest level for more than five years. The benchmark eastern wool market indicator fell 14 cents a kilogram last week to close at 678 cents, a low not seen since March 2000. That brings the fall since the start of the wool selling season in early July to 57 cents, or eight per cent, and the drop in the past year to well over $1. Meanwhile wheat exporter AWB lowered its forecast returns for the crop now in the ground by between $2 and $8 a tonne. The forecast for the benchmark APW grade fell $4 to $184 a tonne, down from $198 last season.
