Prison proposal for mulesing
10 Mar 2006

The Australian Democrats have defended their plan to introduce prison time and fines up to $30,000 as penalties for sheep mulesing in their proposed National Animal Welfare Bill. The Democrats also propose a federal animal welfare authority with powers to enter any property and seize any animal. Australian Wool Innovation has promised to phase out mulesing by 2010.
