Woolgrowers want a China FTA
20 Apr 2006

Wool growers’ cash income will rise by seven per cent and employment in the industry will rise by up to 13 per cent if the Australia/Chinese Free Trade Agreement goes ahead. China takes 60 per cent of Australian wool exports, but under the global tariff rate quota system charges 38 per cent duty on greasy and light processed wool above a 287,000 tonne quota. Wool is the second largest export to China after iron ore and was worth $1.3 billion in 2005.
