South Australian farm incomes above average
3 Oct 2006

Farm cash incomes for South Australian broadacre farms fell sharply in South Australia in 2004/05, reflecting the combination of lower winter crop production, lower grain prices and lower wool prices. In 2005/06, farm cash incomes for South Australian broadacre farms are estimated to have risen only slightly to average $81,000 a farm, but still well above the national average of $55,000. Good rainfall across the major cropping districts of South Australia, particularly in the later portion of the growing season of 2005, resulted in an increase of over 30 per cent in winter crop production in 2005/06. In part, this is a consequence of the larger average enterprise size of South Australian farms, compared with broadacre farms nationally.
