CSIRO dumps top wool researcher 1 Feb 2007
The CSIRO has dumped Dr Tony Schlink, Australia’s top wool production researcher, claiming his internationally recognized expertise is no longer relevant to the organisations' new commercial research directions. Dr Schlink had been with the CSIRO for 23 years. Dr Schlink made world headlines in 2003 with the discovery that sheep could be bred to produce wool that was less prone to shrinkage. Dr Schlink also pioneered methods to reduce dust contamination and weather damage to wool, established a link between animal stress and fibre shedding, and found new techniques to measure seasonal change to wool fibre diameter.
