Pet lovers have wool pulled over their eyes
27 Apr 2007

Thousands of Japanese have been deceived in a scam in which they were sold Australian and British sheep and told they were poodles. Flocks of sheep were imported to Japan and sold by a company called Poodles as Pets, which marketed the woolly animals as fashionable accessories. The sheep were sold for $1,600 which is about half the price a real poodle costs. Police believe that 2,000 people have been affected by the scam, which capitalised on the fact that sheep are rare in Japan and many people don’t know what they look like.
