Sheep and dairy research preferred over beef
22 Aug 2007

The Victorian government has cut its funding for beef research by $500,000, angering cattle producers. The funds will instead be used for lamb and dairy research where the government could see greater opportunity for more rapid progress. The president of the Victorian Farmer's Federation's cattle committee, Leonard Vallance, said "They claim the beef industry is not growing. Victorian cattle go into Queensland feedlots and they don't recognise that. That feedlot industry could be in Victoria."
