Dry spring creates havoc for farmers
5 Nov 2008

Goulburn Murray Water has announced a small increase of 2 per cent in allocations to Murray and Goulburn irrigators. However the dry spring conditions in the south east are causing a loss of crops, underweight livestock being sent to market early and big reductions in farm incomes. Mallee farmers will most likely get a yield of about half their normal average. In the Wimmera yield estimates range from very little to the odd barley crops with potentials of up to five tonnes a hectare. Mountain graziers are expecting spring calf sales to severely impacted.
